Feedback to the Newtown's Affliction

Georgians grieve with and pray for the families and friends of those affected by Friday's senseless tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In honor and as a mark of respect to those affected by the events in Newtown, Conn., flags on all state buildings and grounds have been flown at half-staff and will be until sunset tomorrow.

Schools in Georgia already work with the state and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency to implement safety guidelines. Since Friday, schools across the state have taken various approaches to assess and step up their safety and security plans.

If you have concerns about your child’s school, the Georgia Department of Education encourages you to talk with local school administrators and read this school safety resources page. Recommendations on how to talk to children about tragedies and a school safety checklist are just a few of the resources available. This tip sheet for talking with and helping youth and children may also be helpful.

What is the difference of having a service and maintenance?

We know that it is puzzling. That is why Atlanta HVAC Services is here to clarify this confusion.

There are these moments when a client calls for a maintenance visit for their air conditioning unit, especially when they think that it is not in a good condition. This ambiguity can be a problem if it is a hectic time of the year. We receive numerous of service calls in a day and these kinds of calls are our top priority compared to maintenance calls.

If you noticed your A/C unit not working and its temperature is over 100 degrees, what would you ask from us? Maintenance? Or service?

When something is wrong with your system and it stopped working, evidently you should call for a service. As we said, service calls is our priority. We don’t want to prolong our customers' experience of discomfort due to their air conditioner problems.

So what is really the difference of the both? Well, maintenance is simply a precautionary move. This is done to make sure that your unit is perfectly functioning. If your system is totally not working, then call for a service.

Save Money This Winter

Yes, you read it right, saving money this winter. We know that you are tired of seeing your electricity bills increase always during this time of the year. And we are sure that you are looking for some ways right now to have an efficient energy saving trick to save you money. Well, stop looking because you've found us!

Lower your thermostat: Did you know that you can save at least 4 percent per degree if you lower down your thermostat during this season? You think that sounds easy? It is, but it such a hassle if you do it every time. Why not install a programmable thermostat? It will help you save money while not thinking anything about it.

Lower the temperature of your water heater: Water heaters usually make up the 25 percent of your electricity bill every month. If you lower its temperature from 131F up to 119F it will help you save some enough money even without compromising your water being heated.

Use your ceiling fans: You need your ceiling fan to have a switch, then flip it and your fan will spin clockwise. The clockwise-spin of your ceiling fan will push warm air from the ceiling around down to the walls. This will make you comfortable even with a low thermostat setting.

Seal the gaps of your windows and doors: Windows are the reason of 20 percent of the heat loss every winter. This season, seal all the gaps around your windows, doors, and even electrical outlets.

If you think you can’t do this all, why not hire a professional? Atlanta HVAC Services is here to help you save money during the winter season and get that comfort you deserve.  You can call them at 770 - 425 – 0000. You can also visit their website: http://hvacrepair-atlanta.com/

Cold Weather with Heat Pumps

Heat pumps are a top pick of a lot of business and home owners. Why? Well, it does not need a separate AC system and a heater, because it already provides both heating and cooling capabilities.  Great isn’t it?

It extracts heat from the outside and pumps it inside especially during colder temperatures. Rather than most cost efficient heaters, this uses way lesser energy.
A heat pump usually works best above 40 degrees, because the unit freezes up when it gets very cold. If this happens, most of the time, it defrosts itself. But during this process, it has to be "on" for it to melt the ice and its electric heater will start so cold air is not blown into your home. This isn’t efficient at all when you have your AC and heater working simultaneously.

Atlanta HVAC Services doesn’t want you to experience those cold nights that is why they suggest that you have your heater tested before the temperature goes down.
To know more about heat pumps or if you want to schedule a check up for your furnaces contact Atlanta HVAC Services now.  You can call them at 770 - 425 – 0000. You can also visit their website: http://hvacrepair-atlanta.com/

Rheem Unveils New XR90 Extreme Recovery Gas Water Heater

Rheem has unveiled the new XR90 Extreme Recovery Gas Water Heater. Consumers seeking more energy efficient water heating solutions now have an incredibly compact—yet powerful—option in the XR90. Needing only 29 gallons of storage, the Rheem XR90 is able to heat water faster than any standard 50-gallon gas water heater. Plus, the XR90 costs less annually to operate than any standard 30-, 40- or 50- gallon gas model.

"Homeowners can now have a smaller, more compact water heater—without sacrificing power or performance,” said Tommy Olsen, Rheem senior product manager. “With the Rheem XR90, the household gets more hot water faster, at a lower operating cost.”

The XR90 meets, and in most cases, exceeds the available hot water provided by a standard 50-gallon gas water heater. It has a first hour rating (FHR: the amount of hot water in gallons the heater can supply in the first hour following the heater’s initial firing) of 90 gallons—meaning homeowners get three times the amount of hot water in an hour than what the tank actually holds.

In addition, the Rheem XR90 heats water 42 percent faster than a typical 50-gallon gas model. It has a recovery rate—how fast the water heater replaces the hot water used—of 61 gallons per hour at a 90°F rise in temperature. A standard 50-gallon gas model has a recovery rate of 43 gallons.

Consumers will also benefit from the unit’s lower annual operating costs: only $261 for the XR90 versus $315 for a standard 50-gallon gas model. Plus, the XR90 has an Energy Factor (EF) of .70, exceeding the requirements of ENERGY STAR® Phase II. Depending on the municipality, the XR90 qualifies for certain local and state rebate opportunities, thereby lowering the up-front investment for the homeowner. Homeowners can visit the Rheem Homeowner Resource Center to find out what local and federal rebates and incentives are available.

“The U.S. Department of Energy anticipates that approximately 37 million residential water heaters will be replaced in the next five years,” Olsen added. “As homeowners evaluate their next water heater purchase, we expect them to pay extra attention to efficiencies that can lead to a lower annual operating cost. With an annual operating cost 17 percent lower than a standard 50 gallon tank, the XR90 is a perfect fit for homeowners looking for a powerful water heater at a fair price.”

The Rheem XR90 is the only gas tank-type water heater that can fit in the same space as many 30-gallon and most standard 40- or 50-gallon gas water heaters, while still providing enough hot water for standard 50-gallon applications. The height of the XR90 is 65.56 inches, but the diameter is only 17.75 inches, versus 21.75 for a standard 50-gallon unit. The slimmer profile facilitates locating the unit in tight-fitting spaces, such as attics, utility closets and garages, as well as basement mechanical rooms. One-man installation is a practical reality, with a shipping weight of only 136 pounds.

“Although the XR90 will work in any residential application, it is especially ideal for retrofit situations in which a homeowner wants to upgrade to a higher-performing model, but has only a small footprint available or simply needs to save space,” said Olsen.

Other key features of the new Rheem XR90 include:
  • Integrated, self-diagnostic Honeywell® gas valve: This key control monitors all water heater operations, using an LED readout to identify problems and facilitate easier troubleshooting and servicing, should it become necessary.
  • Rheem Guardian® Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistance (FVIR) System: This maintenance-free protective system is a safety feature, which includes a flammable vapor detection sensor, automatically disabling the XR90 in the presence of such vapors.
  • High Altitude-Compliant: The XR90 is certified up to 7,700 feet above sea level, so it can be installed in most homes throughout the United States.
  • Six-Year Warranty: The XR90 includes a patented magnesium anode rod with a special resistor to protect the tank from rust. The warranty can be extended to 10 years with the Rheem ProtectionPlus™ Kit, containing a second anode rod for inclusion at the time of the initial installation.

Rheem One of the First HVAC Brands Recognized by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Initiative helps educate Americans on the most efficient ENERGY STAR-qualified products; Rheem is one of the first HVAC brands on the inaugural list

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently unveiled a new, prestigious honor: the ENERGY STAR® Most Efficient designation. The Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC air conditioning unit has earned the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation for 2011. This technologically advanced unit is the company’s most efficient air conditioning offering to-date, providing homeowners with operational savings as well as supreme comfort and reliability.

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient effort will help American consumers quickly identify the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR designation in particular product categories including heating and cooling equipment, clothes washers, televisions and refrigerator-freezers.

“Heating and cooling costs the average homeowner about $1,000 a year—nearly half the home's total energy bill (source: U.S. Department of Energy), so the fact that the EPA is featuring heating and cooling products as part of its ENERGY STAR Most Efficientinitiative is significant,” said Nitish Singh, director of marketing and product management, Rheem Air Conditioning Division. “This initiative can help consumers better understand the benefits of selecting high efficiency heating and cooling systems, and we’re honored that our Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC unit is one of the first to have been recognized on the inaugural list of Most Efficient ENERGY STAR qualified products.”

The Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC unit achieves efficiencies up to 19.5 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating). SEER is used to express the efficiency of an air conditioning unit; the higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit. The ENERGY STARMost Efficient program noted that qualifying packaged central air conditioners must achieve efficiencies greater than greater than 16 SEER.

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria also specified that qualifying air conditioning units must include advanced communications and diagnostics. The Rheem Prestige Series RASL-JEC unit features the advanced Comfort Control2 System (CC2S) as a standard feature. Exclusive to Rheem, CC2S is a unique controls system and communicating thermostat that allows homeowners to access intuitive, advanced features such as humidity control and service. For instance, the CC2S Active Protection™ feature with homeowner “Call for Service” notification sends an alert to the thermostat if a service issue arises, which notifies the homeowner so s/he can put in a call to the contractor.

The ENERGY STAR Most Efficient designation is designed to recognize and advance the most efficient products among those that qualify for the ENERGY STAR label. The goal of ENERGY STAR Most Efficient effort is to encourage a faster introduction of new, more energy efficient products into the market by targeting early adopters.

“This new label will help Americans save money and cut pollution by quickly pointing them to the best ENERGY STAR products have to offer. Highlighting ENERGY STAR’s Most Efficient products is a great way to encourage the strides in innovation that bring even more energy and money saving choices to our stores," said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “We know American consumers are eager to make purchases that save them money on their utility bills and reduce the pollution in the air we breathe, and these labels will help them identify the best ways to find those purchases.”
